Caught Between the Moon and New York City

I missed the eclipse, even though I was cognizant of its occurrence. I'll be honest that it was out of sheer laziness. I didn't feel like trying to get to where I could actually see the moon, plus I had other things I wanted to do. I did love all of the, "This is the LAST time you'll get to see this until 2010!!!" hype. I don't know about the rest of you, but I plan on still being around in two years. If I'm not, I have far more to worry about (and do!) than missing a lunar eclipse. I do actually love astronomy, it just didn't work out this time around. Fortunately for me, there are plenty of cool photos out there.

Beautiful things I *did* discover in the city this past week:

1) Kick-ass end-of-the-season cashmere sales. When you can pick up a $200 sweater for less than $35, who cares if you only get a few wearings of it until it's too warm? Being allergic to wool is suddenly far more okay with me ;)

2) A fantastic stylist but also, learned from watching his assistant giving me my blowout, the ceramic brush. I picked one up this morning and, after trying it out, I think I'll actually need to spend less than a minute with a flat iron (also ceramic, of course) to finish the job. My hair feels as soft as my new sweaters. I'm hardly using any product in my hair at all.

3) REAL New York bagels. I like bagels, they're perfectly fine, but I've never gone crazy for them. Until this morning, I don't think I'd ever really had an authentic one. It still had that outward characteristically chewy shell, but the center had a really light wonderful consistency-- the perfect mix. It's like no bagel I've ever had. I think I just might like bagels more than I thought!

4) The bodega downstairs from my apartment sells wasabi peas.

5) This awesome lip stuff. It's great for "winter lips" (dry, chapped). This isn't your mother's Chapstick. It exfoliates your lips better than a good make-out session, although admittedly not as fun. On the other hand, they're far more kissable from the get go.
