You Oughta Be in Pictures

I wish I could get into the Oscars, but I just can't get too enthused about it. Never really have. The only time I found them exciting was when I sang at a major Oscar gala. Even then, I cared much more about the party (and that I was singing toward the end so couldn't eat much of anything from the amazing spread as I wandered through, much less enjoy a glass of wine) and the fact I had on a seriously killer dress (lent to me by my fabulous drag queen neighbor who happened to be just my height and size :) ).

If it's Sundance or Cannes, I get far more excited. I'm not a snob about what I see in the least, but the whole "Best...(anything)" seems it hardly ever is, although I'll give credit where due in saying that more indie and foreign film seems to be getting more recognition. Oh, I'll read the list of awards tomorrow. As someone who saw more than 80 films in the theater last year, I definitely care about film itself, I just couldn't be less enthused about watching the awards and endless speeches, etc. And the whole red carpet thing kinda' eludes me.

Even the Grammys don't snare me, with as much as I care about music. The categories that interest me most are the ones the don't televise.

Call me when the Tony noms are announced.
