The CD player turned 25 today. I remember hearing about them from one of my music teachers when they were just a speck on the horizon, far before discs were widely available and when the players were huge and prohibitively expensive. He was telling me that they'd replace vinyl records "soon". I gave him that "Man, you're a stupid adult! I'm a teenager so you know nothing. Look at tapes-- they haven't replaced them!" look, probably accompanied by a dismissive, "No way, dude" (yes, I am from California).
Now, I don't even buy CDs when I can help it. I'm all about the digital. Concrete media takes up far too much room. I really don't need more stuff to dust.
Just for the record (no pun intended), I still do consider him a complete dumbass in many aspects (like, say, killing an entire thriving, national-award-winning instrumental department in a matter of 3 years). I'll go on record (okay, this time it's intentional) in saying that he was at least right about something.
