I can't tell you how freeing it is to finally have a place. I signed the lease and picked up the keys today, after which I let out a giant exhale. I'm officially a Manhattanite. The woman at the leasing office whom I dealt with last week commented that I "look more relaxed today". :) Yeah, just a bit!
It was nice to see the apartment again to get a true sense in my head of exactly what it looked like. I saw so many that day that some of the details were fuzzy. It *IS* the one with the huge (by Manhattan standards) closet! I can actually fit all the way inside of it. In my neighborhood, that's almost considered a one-bedroom, haha. I think I might wait until the movers get here to get a better sense of how things will fit. The spots for the piano and "the chair" have pretty well been determined, but I need to think about what else to put where. It's small, so every inch counts. I'm going to have to think vertically and multi-purpose. There are a few key items I don't think I want to purchase until I'm gainfully employed, as they're on the pricy side.
I called Con Ed, the movers, and set up DSL this afternoon. I haven't heard back yet on when the movers should arrive, but I expect it'll be about 10 days, since my stuff is still in California (in storage with the movers).
I'm headed out shopping in a bit to stock up on a few apartment essentials. While there is no Manhattan Target (travesty!! And despite the fact that the biggest Target billboard ad in the country is blocks from my apartment), there is one in Brooklyn off the subway line that's about half a block from my new place. Of course, I'm in Brooklyn at the moment (I needed to come back and use a steady internet connection for a while, eat lunch, and make a few phone calls in peace).
Okay, enough wasting of time. I gots stuff ta' do and places (like MINE!) to be.
