I'm in count-down mode. The movers come soon and then I'm off like a shot. Needless to say, I have my hands full of activity the next few days as I try and wrap up here. I'll sleep on the plane :)
My piano and golf clubs are both packed safely and prepared for movers- it's really happening, folks! Since I don't have a permanent place in NYC as of yet, the movers are putting everything in storage and will bring it to me when I'm ready. Knock wood that it's sooner than later. I really want to get settled. I do have a temporary place for a month, though, so it's not like I'm going to be without a roof over my head or anything.
My car sold this morning. They gave me a good-faith deposit and will come back to pick it up (likely over the weekend, not today). I just secured an inexpensive rental for the next 4 (!!) days so I can do things like take it to San Francisco tonight sans worry for any incidental damage, not to mention haul stuff in the car without worry of it getting icky.
That was the biggest item on my to-do list and my largest concern, so I'm happy to be relieved of that (although I'll be even happier when I hand over the keys and pink slip- it makes me nervous to still have it in my hands and not have the money yet).
Last Saturday was the giant furniture purge. I'm rid of almost all big furniture that I'm not taking with me (which leaves little remaining). My desk is still here because it has stuff on it (but the legs unscrew and it's just a table, so easy to cart away), as is the futon frame from my office. I'm currently sleeping on its mattress which, since is a top-of-the-line and is barely used, is going with me. I'm going to try and loft my new apartment (if it's not already so), so I can just buy a new frame to make for a smaller couch than the big-ass Queen-sized one that was in my current living room.
My fabulous sis-in-law is coming by this afternoon so that we can take some Good Will stuff over that we packed up in her van. She was (and always is) a real godsend, doing lifting, packing, carting and all that jazz. I have work ahead, but it's manageable in small chunks.
Nothing much to report on the job front other than the fact I have a few irons in the fire. As much as I don't want to use the cushion I have, that's what it's there for. Hopefully, the impact will be minimal. I had a good interview yesterday, but not sure if there's an appropriate position there for me. I like the company, though, so a foot in the door is far from being a bad thing, even if I land another job in the meantime.
