I figured I'd start with an introductory post. Most who know me know I've been talking about moving to New York for a few years now. I figured it's time I put my money where my mouth is.
My job is ending March 31. This was a mutual decision, as my job moved to Texas and I elected not to go with it. They're treating me well with having had plenty of notice and a pretty decent exit package. I moved back to the South Bay for the job that's ending. While I have some excellent people in my life here, a majority are planning on leaving at some point, as well, so what's keeping me here? It's time to go. I think, really, the "big guy" is finally calling my bluff, placing a big, neon sign above my head and saying, "So do it already!". It may be for a year, it may be for a decade, or the rest of my life. All I know is that NYC has felt more and more like home with each visit.
I can secure a month in Brooklyn, starting in mid-April. This will give me time to explore from a resident viewpoint, line up a sublet or, if I'm gainfully employed, something more permanent.
Musically, I have a couple of contacts there and a line on some places to sit in. I don't have any design on performing full-time again, just some play time to keep me sane and artistically satisfied.
Now, it's just a matter of getting rid of almost everything I own and obtaining movers for the few things I am keeping (grandmother's chair, piano, stacks of fake books). I've been packing and purging since January.
I'm terrified and excited. I've been traveling a lot for work the past few months, so I think those two will reverse as it gets closer.
