Here, There and Everywhere

As I've gotten more and more intimate with my new home, I'm still discovering things practically in my own back yard. Just this week, I found a drugstore just on the next block, on the other side of the pass-through across the street. I'd been going about 4 blocks previously, to the one I knew. I should have known-- Duane Reid is like Starbucks (also a recent discovery, just down my same block). They're both everywhere. Next door, is a taqueria with plenty of healthy options. Score. There's one a prefer even more that delivers (not nearly as convenient in location), but sometimes waiting for delivery isn't the best option.

Last night I went to Lincoln Center for the first time. The stage is big, with a vast proscenium arch. My friend W and I sat second row, orchestra for Cymbaline, one of Shakespeare's later and lesser-known plays. Occasionally, I found myself distracted from the performance, just thinking, "I'm at Lincoln Center".

The performance itself was nice. It was a little unevenly acted, but it actually worked with the story, rather than against it. It's written a bit disjointedly, so seeming like some of the actors were hardly in the same play at times wasn't necessarily a bad thing. John Cullum was a standout in the title role. You may remember him from Northern Exposure. I last saw him in "110 in the Shade" earlier in the year, where he was equally as good (and completely different). Martha Plimpton has yet to fail me in any role. There were others equally as good, although several names are escaping me at the moment.

Today, on my way home, I took a short walk down another street nearby I rarely travel. There, I ran across a great little discount place I'd overlooked. It's a great place to pick up the little stuff-- the things that you get rid of, say, when moving cross-country and have yet to replace. I finally got some baking pans, good flashlights (I have one here, but far more suited for camping than household), that sort of stuff.

I can't believe the long weekend is over already. I could do with another couple of days off to recover. As soon as my laundry is out of the dryer, I'm headed straight to bed. I'm exhausted. A good exhaustion, but exhausted.
