I love my hair!!
It's always scary to enter into a relationship with a new stylist. They have a lot of power in their hands (and the sharp instruments in those hands). Used wisely, this power can either immediately kill the relationship or stoke it longer than the hottest of boyfriends. Upon relocating, beyond housing and the job to pay for it, finding the right doctor(s) and dentist, a good stylist is a critical need.
I walked in, about a half hour early (had to get out of the office and had no idea how long it would take), and I didn't even get a paragraph done in my book when he was ready for me. We have mutual friends, so I introduced myself and the shared relationships (even more scary if it would have not worked out) and it was like we were old friends.
Before arriving, I had a pretty set idea in my head of what I wanted. Communicating it can be difficult as it's all open to interpretation. He never really asked what I wanted and I never really told him, although of course he did walk me through what he was doing, so I could have objected at any time. When it came to color he asked, "Do you trust me?" and I said, surprisingly confidently, "Yes!".
I could have found no picture perfect enough for what he did to my overgrown, root-showing mop it had gotten to be and into EXACTLY what I'd envisioned-- length, layers and all. He probably took a good 6 inches off, but it's still well below my shoulders. Oh, yeah, I have a new relationship in my life. He didn't even put any product in it (so that I didn't have to wash it tomorrow), yet I can't stop feeling my hair. It feels like pure silk.
And what stylist have you ever met who A) Encourages natural coloring (even if it's helping Mother Nature along) and B) recommends a visit every three months! When you're laying out a small fortune (and he's quite reasonable in the higher-end market) two fewer cuts a year adds up.
