Slip Slidin' Away

Okay, so, remember my saying the only thing I was really afraid of in this weather was ice? Yeah. I know it comes to nobody's surprise that I'm a klutz. I learned a very valuable lesson today. Upon leaving the office for the evening, don't forget to change your boots!!

It didn't even register as I walked forward and stepped "into a small puddle" that, no, it was black ice. I landed straight on my ass- literally. On one hand, I can tell the injections did their job. On the other, A) I've only had one of the two in the series of injections in this round and B) that means that I just can't FEEL all of what I did, even if I actually hurt myself more. I'm pretty darn sore everywhere connected, so I can only imagine what's going on back there. Oy. Hopefully, it's all just surface stuff (doh!).

And my first thought upon doing so (once the initial, "Holy sh*t, I'm falling!" had passed) after landing? Not, "OMG, what did I hurt?" or "Did I land properly?", no. It was "Oh, man, am I embarrassed to have done that in front of a co-worker" and "Damn, it had to be the one day in weeks I wear tailored, dry-clean-only trousers" (which, by the way, are far more unharmed than I am).

I then looked at my feet to realize I was still wearing my dress boots with zero traction. My other boots that were still sitting under my desk would have been totally fine in that situation (which is why I wear them outside!). I quickly proceeded to embarrassingly slither back upstairs to the office and change.

I'll be taking more than one muscle relaxer before bed this evening (it's actually prescribed to take one or two-- I usually take just a half, if that). I've got to pass on the painkiller because I'd be on my 3rd consecutive day (usually my limit on building a complete intolerance and it's one of the few left I can take at all, even very short term) and also I really need to feel any residual pain to see if I can sense doing any more damage than has been done. I will gently stretch out before bed, though (thank goodness for the years of dance training and knowing my body very well). There are several pulled muscles going on there that will reeeeeally be painful in the morning if I let them stiffen up even more. Luckily, I also only used my wrists as a last resort, so while they're a little stiff, with my arms and neck, they didn't take the brunt of the fall. I could have very easily broken my wrist(s). Which would have sucked. A lot. I have enough injured complex joints :)

In other news, my consulting company held a really nice lunch for us today. It was good to get out of the office and be social and the food was quite good.
