On With the Show

I thought it felt a little "extra chilly" out on my way home tonight. My homepage tells me it's 25 degrees out. Yep, that would explain it! It's brisk, but really only my face and ears because I forgot to wear a hat and I ran errands (out of my way) before coming home. I do love that when I have errands to run that I can still do them around midnight as if it were 5pm.

I fell in love today. With the Ziegfeld movie theater! It's one of those old movie palaces, much like the Castro and Grand Lake of the Bay Area, only much more kept up and, in the case of the Grand Lake, not divided. No organ rising up from the ground, but enough other details to make up for it. It really felt like I was walking back in time, even if within my own lifetime. The seats fit the decor, but are modernly comfortable. I saw "Enchanted", which was lots of fun. With such a giant screen (the largest I've seen in quite a long time), I felt like I was 5. I stared in wonder as the animation started, like the Disney films on which I cut my movie buff teeth.

Tonight was another love-- a fabulous play. With the strike over (hooray!), I felt the need to celebrate. Somewhat last-minute, I decided to take advantage of a good discount on orchestra seats for "August: Osage County". It's fantastic-- clever, painfully-human, sad, and laugh-out-loud funny. It's 3 1/2 hours long, including 2 intermissions. It felt like maybe an hour and a half. I'd been hesitant to see it with the long run time. I have a low tolerance for straight plays as it is. This was worth every second and, if considering the dollar-to-time ratio, the best bargain on Broadway (not counting the knock off hand bags).

I suppose sleep should be on the agenda soon-- I have an early morning workout then meeting up with a friend for a couple more movies!
