Oh, my. It's been quite a day so far. It was mostly work stuff, which I'll spare you. Just take my word for it-- it was nuts. It had a rocky start (Murphy's Law applied often) and declined from there. I think the site is pretty much there, although we'll have some post-launch cleanup to do as one of the issues was that we couldn't sufficiently preview much of anything past about noon (yeah).
On to much better things...
Well, I asked for autumn and, boy, did I GET it!! It actually snowed today for about 30 seconds. Thankfully, I have an observant co-worker who said, "Hey, is that SNOW??". I ran to the window, being the big California goober I am, with excitement at the sight. Yep, those were flurries all right. I'll admit to the fact that I'm happy it was as short as it was and didn't stick (I know there's plenty in store and I'm glad to keep that to a minimum), but it was still pretty cool to see. Sure, I've seen a ton of snow, having been a skier and *visited* snow a lot, but I've never lived in it. Never, as a part of an ordinary work day, has it snowed outside, other than the few sad excuses for snow days we had while I lived in the Bay Area (I think 3 days in the 30+ days I lived there).
After I escaped the office, I headed up town to Whole Foods. Apparently, everyone else had the same idea I had-- go before Thanksgiving madness hits! Too late ;) I was amazed at just how organized they are, though. With the line going all the way through the store (after the typical amusement-park-style, snaking queues-- the "express" line was just as long), I got through it extremely quickly. They had probably 40 or so registers going. Very impressive. Of course, they didn't have half of what I went there seeking (the only other source of which I ever found was WF in California), but I picked up plenty of goodness.
As I walked into the shopping center at Columbus Circle, I heard Christmas music. Ordinarily, that really annoys me before Thanksgiving, but it didn't today. It was finally cold, the lights everywhere are really uplifting, and it really did put me in the spirit. I went upstairs instead of down, forgetting what level the store was on, but was happy I did. When I turned around, I realized the music was narrating a timed light show. It could have looked really cheezy, but didn't. Little glowing twinkle lights timed to music with huge lanterns also choreographed to change color with the music. That, with the backdrop of the dark night sky and trees with small white lights outside was enough to make me smile like the big ol' kid I am inside.
I could have been really annoyed, fighting crowds, navigating the narrow aisles filled with like-minded shoppers, all with a purpose, but I wasn't. I was in the state I often find myself here-- practically bordering on giddy. I'm sure I'll become jaded on a few things here, but I'm enjoying this feeling while it lasts. It's a hell of a honeymoon.
I had a nice walk home, although it was quite cold out and I wasn't prepared. It's been really mild the past couple of days, so I didn't have a hat with me and the gloves were a hassle by the time I was out and had groceries. It was fine, though. It's not very long-- about 13 blocks, so I was fine for such a brief walk.
Once in the door, I realized it was actually Friday. Thank god.
