Where Has the Time All Gone to?

Yes, I now have that song stuck in my head, but that's not a bad thing.

How on earth is it October already?? A friend of mine was recently confirming our Thanksgiving plans and I was thinking, "Geez, it's ages away!", then realized it's only about a month from being here.

I think part of my mental extension of summer has been the weather. Today was the first time it was cold enough to even warrant a jacket (yet I still didn't and really only missed it during a windy moment this morning walking between buildings). It is happily getting to sweater and boot weather, though. I've stocked up on both for the occasion. I do remember uttering the words, "I can handle summer-- it's only 3 months long!". Perhaps my own curse ;) I can only hope winter isn't as unkind. I'm good with spring and fall.

It's Autumn in New York. Not only a great song, but a beautiful thing, in general. The trees are turning, the air is getting crisp and smells of the smoky, roasted chestnuts from street vendors, and the park will soon look like the famed scene from "When Harry Met Sally". This is the time of year I'd travel just to experience 10 days of it. It's still pretty surreal that I'm living in the place that's always been my favorite destination-- and in my favorite season here.

Time is also passing quickly because I've been sinking myself into my work lately, too. This is a good thing. I'm expanding my skill set and working with smart people. Not a bad combo.

The one thing about my job is that I don't have remote access. So, really, my weekends are still my own at this point-- entirely. That's when I carve out moments for quality time with friends, shows, new movies, and a bit of "me" time. I occasionally make plans mid-week, but it's become more rare as my schedule is a bit unpredictable. Mostly, I make casual, last-minute plans or will make exceptions when the right comp tickets become available that aren't up for the weekends and am confident I can get away for an evening.

I'm slowly catching up on things which I fell behind for a month or so. I think by the end of the year, I'll actually meet that goal :)
