Home, Home on the Range

Everything is starting to come together here at the new homestead. The air conditioner arrived today (about a week earlier than anticipated and just in time- it was in the 90's today!!- it's been an odd year here, weather-wise). I just need to hunt down the super tomorrow so he can install it. Also today was the arrival my new coffee table (which I'll need to stain and seal, but that's for later) and the set-up of my NY phone (yes, still keeping the cell number, but nice to have something local-- and with completely unlimited calls to the US and Canada for cheap!). The door man has definiely gotten to know me as I seem to have at least one UPS package a day recently.

The movers arrived Tuesday, as did the new loveseat (and its own ever-adjustable awsomeness). I've unpacked several boxes and stowed some storage stuff (platform beds and huge closets are an asset in a small apartment!). My bed came Wednesday and I've been sleeping like a stone. I should be pretty close to done unpacking this weekend, with exception of all that needs to go in the bookcases, which don't arrive until next Wednesday. Of course, half of the boxes I had shipped are for the bookshelves, haha.

I have my NYC Public Library Card, a Manhattan lease, a Duane Reide card and comp offers all over the city. I think I'm official. I'm looking forward to combing through the library's collections. They're known for having just about everything. I imagine I'll be in music heaven!! I don't need any novels for a while- I've got a few things in the queue as far as pleasure-reading material (currently enjoying my new author love, Chuck Klosterman).

It's been a crazy week. Wednesday night I went and saw "Grey Gardens"* on a bit of a whim. while there, I see this woman who looks like my friend Marcie. I've been meaning to contact her pretty much since I got here, but wanted to settle in, etc. Plus, had lost a majority of her contact info.

Of course, it was her! Turns out she not only works on my block, BUT, also lives just blocks from where I was staying in Brooklyn! It was a nice little reunion and so good to be back in touch. It's been a long time. She's been out here for about 4 years or so- crazy how time flies! Last night, I also saw several people on the street. Since it was warm, I think all of Mahattan was out. I passed a woman I worked with years ago doing a show in San Francisco. This is the night I also consciously realized that the stage door next to my building is a stage door. I had to fight the autograph crowd to get past (something which, had I anticipated, would have walked around before it was too late). Also, there's a club close by I'd never noticed. I guess I hadn't walked by late enough to notice the long-ass line to get in. The amusing part was the small crowd toward the end who looked extremely out of place. We're talking parental-unit-from-Iowa types. At a club-club. Hey, whatever floats their boat! :)

Speaking of boats, it's also Fleet Week in my fair city. Sex in the City definitely glorified this week in NY. If I see one more tall-building-struck sailor, I might have to mow him over completely. I swear, the entire city is peppered with clusters of little white uniforms. I never understood the appeal. Especially with the few "Howdy, ma'am"s I've gotten (they're all twelve!). Oy.

*Christine Ebersole is soooooooooooo good in Grey Gardends, as is the woman who played the mother in the second act. She was also a regular on One Day at a Time. How I remember that, I'll never know. Anyhow, if Christine E. doesn't get the Tony for this, I'll be surprised. The show itself shouldn't beat out "Spring Awakening", though, in my opinion.
