Yet another regional difference I've been noticing: A lot more people here call me "miss" vs. "ma'am". I'll take "miss" any day, even if I'm 112 or married 50 years.
I've been spending a lot of time in Chelsea the past few days. I like the area. It reminds me a bit of the neighborhood of my first flat in San Francisco. It's good to open yet another area where I'm willing to live.
I haven't started full-on looking for apartments as of yet. I have a few things to do prior, but it will begin soon. Today I'm going to take a walk uptown to see just how far up I'm willing to live. Much above Columbus Circle (and South of Harlem) is a bit of a gray area in my head as to neighborhood conditions. There are some nice deals to be had on the Upper West Side, near Central Park. It would be nice to be near the park, although even in midtown, it's within walking distance on a nice day.
It's nice, in the meantime, to also be getting more acquainted with Brooklyn. Before landing here, I didn't really know any borough other than Manhattan (and Queens, but just the route of the cab ride from the airport, haha). If I ever feel a need to get away from the madness of the city and toward a larger dwelling, parts of Brooklyn wouldn't be half bad. When I buy a place, it's also worth consideration. I'm still reeling over the fact you can actually get to the beach by subway!
The weather here is still gorgeous. I'm definitely loving spring here.
